Private Joke

I found out yesterday, that I'm not eligible for a rent control apartment due to the fact that i make too little money a year. Apparently, living proudly with a kid, making about 20,000$ a year, paying monthly rent of 1,200$ a month, without owning money to anyone, without the use of any social help and with a self dignity that feed this almost impossible task of being a self sufficient parent is not good enough for a rent control apartment, that can save me around 400$-500$ a month and make my life a bit more bearable.
Add to that, the absurdity on my face, hearing that from the cold face administrator (that obviously was annoyed by me making use of her precious time) was received as aggressive and rude, more than that, i have found very few people who share my view of this absurdity.....
Am i sane or maybe i am the insane in this loving world?!

Welcome to The United States my friend. Now had you just come here illegally...

You are not insane Barrista boy, although the good humaman has no idea what he is talking about. Had you come here illegally you would not be allowed welfare, foodstamps, in some cases hospital care, in some cases stepping foot in entire communities (see Newton, NJ). So, the good humaman is full of shit and adding to the hatred of undocumented workers who helped build our country. Now the real issue.

The problem is our Congress who has cut aid to the poor at outrageous amounts as well as doing nothing for those who fall in between. This is truly the land of the haves and have nots and the haves get all of the aid. We must do something for those of us who fall in between the working poor and the middle class because you are right there is nothing.

barista boy, i know we shared a laugh about this absurdity only b/c laughing keeps you from crying and giving up. let's see you're a single dad who needs to have a flexible job schedule so you can be there for your child after school, etc. and care for him as a parent but you're basically punished for not having a regular grind job, tons o' money and full time nanny.

What makes the joke even funnier is that even if you made several times as much, while some things would be easier, you would still have trouble with others--and you would no doubt have less time to look after your child. Even greater challenges await if you will ever need to provide quality care for an aging parent with serious medical problems or a very sick child.

Fixing these and other problems requires a dramatic overhaul of almost all of the systems that determine our quality of life. That isn't going to happen any time soon. It will probably take generations to undue the damage done in the last 8 years--just to bring us back to where we were 8 years ago--and that wasn't the greatest place to be either if you weren't quite well off.

I hope those of us who aren't laughing become more politically active--even though we're the ones who don't have much spare time. It will take a huge effort to change things.
