Mayor Roberts (Democrat?) of Hoboken Gave Money to Giuliani

Mayor Roberts of Hoboken gave a $450. contribution to Presidential hopeful (ahem dictator) Rudolph Giuliani. Here is the contribution. The contribution is apparently from August of 07. He met Giuliani after 9/11 and was enamored with him.

Is that what is wrong with Hoboken? The secrecy, the lack of open government here is reminiscent of Giuliani. Seriously, I have been a democrat all of my life (apart from the eight years I was pissed off at them too) and I would never give money to a Republican, least of all not Rudolph Giuliani. I think Mayor Roberts has some explaining to do.

It's a great story... but it was first reported two months ago.

For the record, here's Giuliani's explanation, from the Bergen Record on Oct. 17:

Through a city hall spokesman, Roberts said he got to know Giuliani in the days after 9/11 and bought a ticket when he was invited to a fund-raising luncheon, but his contribution was not an endorsement. He did not say who extended the invitation, but some major Hoboken developers are also among Giuliani's contributors.

Oops, Roberts's explanation, not Giuliani's. I think Giuliani's explanation was, "(noun) (verb) 9/11"

You give someone money and it is an endorsement. I don't care what they say. Maybe he has a stronger candidate he is supporting, but giving money means you at least support the candidacy. ick.
