The Zealot

One thing we, as Americans need to remember about Karl Rove is this: he started out life in politics as a Young Republican. This is no small thing, and I can say this with some knowledge, since one of my closest friends throughout college and since high school was the chairman of Seton Hall's Young Republicans. Karl Rove, whose prowess at manipulation and deceit started as a collegiate volunteer for the Republican National Committee, became a poster-boy for the guerrilla tactics that would be repeated over and over throughout the country, in the name of all things Republican, and especially Ronald Reagan. Thinking back on how my friend spoke about Reagan, it was like he was worshipping a demi-god. Reaganomics were not a political theory, they were the only way to go. Today, I went on a Young Republicans website and the first thing you see is a picture of Ronald Reagan with the quote : "peace with strength is the only true peace."

Karl Rove was, and is, a zealot. He, like my friend worshipped a man, who after dying, was put on a pedestal as a great and important man: Ronald Reagan. The reality of Iran-Contra, The Arms Race, The School of the Americas, our support of dictators worldwide (such as Saddam Hussein) just gets in the way of the legend.

I can only hope that the American people will not let the media, or they themselves, latch onto to some fairy-tale rendition of the life of a zealot, perjurer, and despot.

Well said, daddydan. Interestingly enough the head of the Young Republicans was just forced to resign in a sex scandal.

Also, probably a worshipper of Ronald Reagan, Nixon and Goldwater. Ick.
