Olbermann Special Comment

Keith goes after Bush once again (on Thursday). It starts declaring a special comment on Bush' and the Republican criticism of the moveon.org ad. But, turns and attacks Bush for "pimping" General Petraeus and stop moving our country towards a dictatorship. Watch it:

The Promotion of Failure in the Bush Administration

When this aired one week ago I thought it the most succinct and brilliantly crafted argument against trusting this Bush administration with anything, let alone a new Iraq policy. It ties the lies, spin and illegality of the war together without consequences and in most cases with promotions. In our face. The only consequences paid are by us, the American people, American soldiers and of course the Iraqi people and its beloved country that shall not recover for a millenium.

Keith is out this week with an emergency appendectomy. Please come back soon Keith, the cable networks seem naked without you.

Olbermann Blasts Bush

Olbermann Slams Bush for his lies and trying "play us" into more war. Gen. Patraeus has famously said "sectarian violence has dramatically decreased." A GAO report released yesterday said: "It is unclear whether sectarian violence in Iraq has decreased–a key security benchmark–since it is difficult to measure perpetrators’ intents, and various other measures of population security from different sources show differing trends..average daily attacks against civilians have remained unchanged from February to July 2007."

What is more the report in summary found:

The Iraqi government met 3, partially met 4 and did not meet 11 of eighteen benchmarks. The GAO had to change to partially met 4 because the Bush administrations said they were being juded too harshly. Overall, the GAO said violence remains high, key legislation has not been passed and it is unclear whether the Iraqi legislature will spend the $10 billion in reconstruction funds.

As Congress considers the way forward in Iraq, it should balance the achievement of the 18 Iraqi benchmarks (by all measures fail), with military progress and homeland security goals, foreign policy goals and other goals of the United States.

This is a clear message to Congress. Will they listen?

Olbermann Gets a Try-out for Prime Time

First a bit of good news. It seems NBC likes Olbermann enough to give him a try-out in prime time on the mother network - NBC, not MSNBC where Olbermann currently has a slot every night at 8pm.

The NY Times reports the try-out will be shown on network television on Sunday before a preseason NBC football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Why is NBC skewing more liberal?

‘Countdown’ is rocketing right now over at MSNBC — its ratings are going through the roof,” said Phil Griffin, senior vice president of NBC News. (In July Mr. Olbermann’s show averaged 721,000 viewers, an increase of 88 percent over last July, according to MSNBC.) Mr. Griffin added, “The world has changed, and I think people have come in line with the smart, focused approach he has on the show.” No immediate plans for additional network appearances of “Countdown” have been made, but Mr. Griffen did not rule them out. “It may be the first of several times you see Olbermann on the network,” he said.

More Keith is good news for everyone.
